Traveling can take a freeform or detailed approach. Regardless of which camp of travel you fall into or somewhere in between, it is always helpful to know a bit about your destination, just in case you have a worn-out child, inclement weather, or any other million possibilities that may arise of nowhere. Here are a few tips to help you find your way through any vacation.


 

Have a Map on Hand


With maps and technology, there is no excuse for not knowing where you are going. If you are going to Disney World, for example, you definitely need to have maps on hand. This is especially true if you are with small children or a large group of travelers.


The goal of going on a trip is to have fun and enjoy new experiences. You want to do that with ease instead of frustration. This is why having a map or two is essential for a positive experience for everyone, adults included.


You can download maps to your smartphone for later use so that you do not need to carry a paper map, or in case you misplace it. Google Maps allow you to download maps for offline use, as well. This is especially helpful if you lose connection or are in an area with a poor signal.

  • Confirm your reservations in advance. Keep all email confirmations in an email folder. Label it “Vacation” or any other title that will make it easy to find. A week or two before your travels begin, look up your reservations online and confirm them. Double-check that the dates, times, and locations are accurate. This includes airline bookings, hotels, car rentals, and any activities you have already scheduled. Keep each initial booking and confirmation email in your email folder for later needs.


  • No matter where you are going, always pack chargers, charging cords, sunscreen, reusable water bottles, and portable snacks. You can get by until you find a store or return to your lodging facilities if you have a few basics. If you have kids, crayons and paper work wonders.


  • Make a master packing list and save it to your phone. Add or delete items as time passes and your life changes, but always keep the master list. Use it diligently to plan for every trip.
